Ace Online (or Space Cowboy Online) is a free to play MMORPG with the characteristics of both third-person shooters and flight simulators, developed by MasangSoft and owned by Yedang.

ACE Online is an action based Massive Multiplayer (MMP) 3D Space Shooter. In ACE Online, players can pilot their own fighter ships (also known as Gears), on a futuristic world where they can upgrade skills or the Gear itself. In ACE Online, gamers have full control over the Gear’s movement, making it very different from the traditional style RPG’s mouse click control method. This is a Role-Playing Game (RPG), but with all the fun and action of a First Person Shooter (FPS). Since the background of ACE Online is based in a spacious 3D atmosphere, players need to be aware that an enemy missile can strike at any time and from any direction.

In North America, the game was previously released as Space Cowboy Online. Space Cowboy Online's client was made available for download in May 2006

The largest of the Decan nations is the Bygeniou City United. The B.C.U. government is run by the National Force Union whose longtime goal is to unify the planet of Phillon. With a very hard-line stance on unification, they have rejected other races and nations. These actions have led to rifts that weakened the government and have spawned enmity with the people in Bygeniou as well as outside. The end result was the separation of Arlington City and the creation of other anti-government movements. These rebels, supported by the Vatallus, formed their own government and are now openly opposing the BCU.

Unlike the traditional government military, its elite mercenary unit from the FreeSKA Academy has unparalleled freedom in the armed forces and is capable of acting independently of the government. Their missions and even command system, operate independently of the government, allowing them full mobility under any circumstances.

The Bygeniou believe in unity by force. They will however put aside their beliefs to respond to an even greater danger. They have vowed to abandon the destructive ATUM Project due to its destructive nature.

Tired of tyrannical rule, a faction of the military and civilian government separated from B.C.U and formed the Arlington National Influence. The A.N.I. are supporters of the resistance movement that opposes the National Force Union at Bygeniou. Being adamant in rejecting the government position politically, a vast number of military personnel abandoned the military and formed an independent force. Promoting peace and freedom, their objective is to unify Phillon through cooperation and equality. This stance however has caused some issues with the Vatallus as they normally take a passive stance.

Although their ranks contain people from all regions, they have high morale and are well disciplined so that they operate well as a unified force. Their actions have earned them the nickname 'Sword of Arlington' by the populace and are a driving force for their ideals."

Arlington, although promoting peace and freedom, will use any means necessary to achieve their objective. To achieve such ends, they have restarted the destructive ATUM Project which caused much catastrophe in the past.

The Brandy Burg, or B-GEAR as it’s known by pilots is a Fighter/Bomber capable of air-to-air dog fighting as well as tactical bombing. The first production design of the modular-frame GEAR series by Next Generation Co. Ltd and it is the most balanced of all active GEARs. When tensions built up between the Deca and the Shrine over the ATUM Project, the Decan governments went ahead and started to build military aircraft. Originally they used modified scout planes for combat, but potential war with the Shrines meant heavier weapons and more rugged aircraft. Due to its design as a modular-frame, the base function and performance of the GEAR is retained while modifying the airframe for more specific tactical needs. Its primary combat function is for all purpose combat for any situation but it is best known for its tactical bombing systems. This GEAR has become a solid staple in the Decan militaries due to its reliability and versatility. As time passed, this GEAR ended up being the basis for all the other GEAR designs as the modular-frame system became favored by pilots and officials alike.

The Anime Mortar, or A-GEAR, is a GEAR designed with ground combat in mind. Threatened by the impressive performance of other GEARs, the Shrines started a ruthless ground campaign. Unprepared, a new GEAR needed to be designed to accompany this threat. Manufacturer Zone Co. Ltd rose up to the challenge and developed the A-GEAR as the final GEAR in the modular-frame GEAR series. With air dominance in the hands of the previous GEARs, the A-GEAR’s role was for powerful ground support. Unlike the other GEARs which specialize in missiles, the A-GEAR functions more of a traditional Tank and uses its powerful cannon as its main weapon. Acting as a mobile turret or as a mounted heavy siege weapon capable of anti-air and stable ground fire, the A-GEAR has quickly become a valuable asset on the battlefield.

The Meadow Bugle, or M-GEAR, is primarily a support vessel. As the war with the Shrines dragged on, as well as a potential war between other Decan powers, the M-GEAR was designed as the third design in the modular-frame GEAR series. The Idle Sniper, or I-GEAR, is a GEAR designed for rapid response and long range strikes. Designed after the B-GEAR, it is the second design in the modular-frame GEAR series. As Next Generation Co. Ltd was busy producing the B-GEAR, governments went to Freeway Co. Ltd for the next new GEAR. Designed and built by Freeway Co. Ltd, the I-GEAR was designed as a specialist Interceptor to the growing Shrine threat. It was discovered early on that direct aerial combat needed an air-to-air specialist capable of firing missiles at a fast rate. The B-GEAR, was capable of handling the Shrine threat initially but the Shrines started to build faster and faster aircraft capable of detecting and attacking at longer ranges so a new GEAR was needed. Modifying the tactical systems and modifying some of the systems on the B-GEAR, the I-GEAR was born. Specializing at unloading and firing missiles at a rapid pace, as well as high speed and maneuverability, the I-GEAR became the king of long range, hit-and-run guerilla tactics used by veteran Decan pilots. Being simple in function, but complex in ability, this GEAR is popular by beginners and veterans alike.

Missions
ACE Online missions are similar to quests in any RPG. As it is a flight shooting game, there exist various intergalactic quests in large quantities to keep players entertained. When a mission is accomplished, gamers will move through the storyline and receive items and rewards as compensation. These rewards will assist a player through the journey into the depths of ACE Online.

Battle Formation/Brigade System
In ACE Online there is a formation system similar to a regular party in any RPG. A maximum of 6 players can fly any formation (triangle, reverse triangle, X form and so on). The formation leader stays in the middle to move around and fight. Skills that generate from each formation are all different, depending on who participates in the formation. A much stronger formation can be achieved if members of the group work in perfect harmony. Additionally, there is another formation system similar to a guild in any RPG, which is known as a “Brigade? There can be up to 40 people within the brigade, with the leader in the middle. By registering their own brigade mark, they can be identified from the other users.

Battle/Large-Scale Battle
One of the most enjoyable aspects of ACE Online would be the epic battles between players (PvP). These can be fought through local wars such as 1 on 1 battles, formation battles and brigade battles. It is also possible to fight with strategy and tactics where one force battles against the other in a large-scale conflict within the server. Three dimensional battles that take place in the air and on the ground will prove to be an intense experience. As a result of these battles, your nation will profit.

Voice Chat
One method of communication when playing ACE Online in a formation or brigade is through voice chat. This form of communication between players allows for a more convenient form of tactical planning and players can ultimately be more focused on their game. The voice communication in ACE Online will help strategize large-scale battles and missions in a more coordinated fashion.

Leader System
The leader, often referred to as the "President", is the person who exercises the right of policy, manages the economic side of the nation and serves as the Commander in Chief of the military. If one becomes a nation leader, they will receive strong authority, economic help and a chance to communicate with the other leader 1 on 1 to settle differences. They are responsible for all conflicts as well.

Masang Soft - Masang originally hosted the alpha and beta test of the game before selling the license to Gala-Net Inc.
Gala-Net Inc. - Gala-Net Inc. until recently held the license for Space Cowboy Online to North America, South America, Europe, Oceania, as well as Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines. After MasangSoft was purchased by Yedang, Masang broke the contract with Gala, suspended this license and sold the rights to Yedang. Gala-Net's version of Space Cowboy Online shut down on 12-26-2007.
Global ACE Online - Yedang previously hosted the international version of ACE Online, however abruptly shut down the servers in Nov 2008 with a message on the front page which read, "Service Close. Thank." The site has since been taken down.
